So let's begin. I'm in NYC. There's me and then there's the 24 Hour Art Party Crowd. I am a nobody. Never been in a meaningful show. Never done a meaningful WORK! at best I dabble when I can, producing ephemeral derivative tripe. We'll see what things look like in 6 months. hmmm....

Isaac Julien at Brooklyn Academy of Music

Went to see a "film triptych" that he showed 11/10 @ BAM. Julien did a film about the life of Frantz Fanon, which I recently bought on DVD from a street vendor. I am very interested in his work now.

Ouattara Watts Mike Weiss Gallery

Went to Watts's opening last nite. I am a big fan of his work. Nigerian painter similar to Schnabel. Sandro Chia and Charlie Finch were there. Ran into a DC artist in Chelsea, I invited him. He didn't dig it too much. Not cerebral enuff I guess. Watts is the "real thing" when it comes to intuitive painting. That sort of "rightness" that people with good strokes have.

Teen Shooting. NYC's "negro problem"..

When I heard of the shooting of an unarmed teen in Bed-Stuy my reaction wasn't outrage at police brutality but the secret relief that a future delinquent, perp had been deleted from the NYC scene. I am sure that I am not alone in my sentiment. Sure I know there is the possibility that he may have one day found God and then gone on to be a top flight neuro-surgeon...but not likely. People aren't willing or able to tell it like it is in these sorts of cases.

"It's not who you are, it's who they think you are." Andy Warhol. Identity and roles change with given situations. I know all of that stuff about the "true self". But the self changes in the context of the dyad or group meaning. The old Hebrew Biblical saying goes.."If someone sues you for your coat, give 'em your hat as well.." In other words, peoples opinion of you is not YOU. Good or bad... look CLOSELY for your friends. Beware people who say one thing to your face and another behind your back. A man who's friends with everyone is often REAL friends with no-one.

Bought a new photo card for my digital camera today.
