The US and African American Culture

Broadly speaking the African is the only large ethnic group that did not arrive on the continent in the service of it's own free will and imagination. They arrived at the service of another group's imagination and plans. This is critical in explaining the entrenched and pervasive complexities of African American assimilation. Symbolically the negro represents the hypocrisy of Euro-American liberalism and Christianity. As such he/she is the touchstone for "hep-cat" re-authenticity. However with the triumph of the Civil Rights era and the pre-cedent struggles leading up to it, comes a crisis of consideration in the future of Africans in America. No longer defined by overt oppression, the internal deficiencies in adjustment must be faced and accepted. to be continued..
